One of the words of the week this month was courage. Courage is the willingness to act in spite of great fear. So much in life can be fearful especially in middle school when you are trying to figure out where you fit in. who are your friends, how people look at you etc... Though we have all been given different gifts and abilities at DMS, different talents; We are all here for the same reason - Learning! Teachers are here to help you learn and in that process of teaching they learn as well. Students are here to absorb and practice the knowledge they are given each and every day. Parents are here to support the interaction between teacher and student: Knowledge delivery by teachers and knowledge practice by the students. Knowledge is so important, it is the one thing that no one can take away from you. It is the one thing that can prevent fear. Most of what we fear is ultimately what we don't know. Because we don't know, we assume and guess, this often leads to confusion and at times conflict . The more knowledge we have have the less likely we are to live a life of fear. Studies show that the educational support a community has, directly impacts the over health and income of its citizens. Strong family units generate strong educational bonds which in turn enables a community to grow.
As educators we want to challenge our students and parents to raise their bar expectation in regards to the amount of knowledge they seek to receive and practice.
Speaking of challenge please click on the link below to see our teacher challenge for the year. The video includes our vision.
